My journey from the music business to blogging from a sailboat to helping women solopreneurs launch wildly successful products online

Hi, I’m Melody and online business is what I get nerdy about.

I’ve learned everything I know about running an online business and launching through having been in the trenches myself, working with top entrepreneurs, and sometimes even throwing stuff at the wall to see if it sticks.

I’ve ranked #1 on Google, had posts go viral, been featured on top blogs, podcasts, and even Oprah Magazine! AND, up until late 2017, I did it all from a sailboat!

Now, I want to show you how to do the same. Minus the boat, of course.

This is my Journey

Studied Audio Engineering

Lived in Nashville and went to school for Audio Engineering, one of only 2 girls in the school. This is where I began to really develop my love of technology. Graduated 2nd in class. Couldn’t find a job because… the recording studios were hesitant to hire a girl. (Things have since changed, thank god.)

Learned coding thanks to Myspace

Like many others around that time, I learned html 101 so I could spice up my Myspace profile. I began creating custom Myspace pages for country music artists, then managing those pages. No one really understood the potential of social media at the time, so it didn’t pay a lot (I kept my bartending gig to pay the bills), but I knew I was onto something.

On the Road

Traveled for over a year installing software systems in restaurants and bars, then training the staff on how to use them. It was a lot of hard work, but this is where I developed my skills for teaching and explaining complex ideas and systems in an easy-to-understand way. It’s also where I learned why you shouldn’t cut a wire while it’s still plugged into the wall. ⚡

9 Years of 9 to 5

Worked for a promotional marketing company as a customer service rep before being promoted to management. Typical 9-5 job with my very own cubicle. Loved the company and my co-workers, but was extremely unhappy and unfulfilled at my job. But I’m grateful because this is where I developed my listening skills and learned a lot about sales, marketing, and persuasion.

My First Online Business

Started an organic clothing company with my boyfriend (now husband). We couldn’t afford a web designer, so I spent 3 months coding my very first website from scratch. It was an e-commerce site, and imagine my surprise when it actually worked, and people around the world were placing orders with us!

Moved Onto a Sailboat

One day Chris threw out the idea of moving onto a sailboat and traveling. I told him he was insane, and that was that. But one night, after many months of soul-searching, and most likely after a shot or two of tequila, I said, “Okay.” I got rid of almost everything I owned (including my to-die-for shoe collection), and moved onto a 35-foot sailboat that we sailed for 6+ years around the East and Gulf coasts of the US, Cuba, Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. This is where I developed the most important skills — perseverence… inner strength… It’s also where I “found” myself.

Started a Blog

After moving onto the boat, I started a blog just for fun, but then decided to try to monetize it to supplement my wine allowance. And it worked! I dove right in, learning everything I could about SEO, writing good content, growing an email list, and more. As my blog grew, I got questions from people asking how I did it, so I started teaching them what I knew.

Landed My Dream Job Working For Ramit Sethi

One day while driving, I heard a straight-shooting entrepreneur named Ramit Sethi on a podcast I was listening to. I was so enthralled that I had to pull over and write down his website. Followed his blog for a year, then applied for a job working on his Editorial Team and actually got it — with ZERO EXPERIENCE. (How I landed the job over hundreds of applicants is a story of its own!) This is where I learned ALL THE THINGS about turning a blog into a legit business and so much more.

Soloprenista Was Born

After leaving my dream job to travel more, I began working independently with clients on their blogs and online businesses. Now I work with all kinds of women, from 7-figure business owners who need help with their biggest launches, to stay-at-home moms who want to start a blog or online business as a creative outlet and a way to contribute financially, but have no idea where to begin. I wanted a way to help more women. Hence, Soloprenista was born.
Now, I want to help YOU create a badass blog and online business for yourself, so you can live a life that is worthy of you. I’ll be doing that through blog posts, free resources, online courses, one-on-one services, and more.

Get ready, because I’m about to be your biggest cheerleader.

Here’s to your success!
